It is a new semester at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, which also means it is a time of different but fresh experiences, options and opportunities not all students realize are available.
The English Club serves as one of those options. A student organization, it welcomes students from all major who enjoy literature, great discussions, and good times. The club currently hopes to increase student participation by hosting more English-related activities, founding an informal informal book club, and putting on themed events, according to Terri Pinyerd, English Club Vice President.

The English Club experienced its first meeting of the semester on Monday, August 31 at 5 p.m.. An informal get-together, the meeting allowed participants to introduce themselves. Participants also discussed food, favorite books, movies, and events within the literature world—Guillermo del Toro and Walt Whitman are just two examples of topics.
Pinyerd encourages students to join the club not just to expand their literary knowledge, but also to meet other students, as meeting new people is always nice. She further states the club gives a great hands-on learning experience through its push for participants to bring their own poetry, short stories, and other writings to share in a friendly and supportive environment.
Should a student have an interest in joining the English Club, or attending one of its meetings or events, they may locate club information on its Facebook page.
