Make Your Mark
Written by Eli Matola
The Make Your Mark campaign is back again this year. Patricia Pitmag, the head coordinator of the Make Your Mark campaign, sat down with the ALEX Office to talk about the program. The one month campaign was created to promote volunteerism and student service. It starts on October 5 followed by a series of events, accumulating to the Volunteer Fair on November 4. The fair will be on the Library Lanai at 11am-2pm and will involve organizations and nonprofits, looking for students to meet.
The first two weeks of the Make Your Mark campaign starts off with getting the word out. The ALEX “Make Your Mark” banners can be seen hanging around the campus and the ALEX Office may even visit some classrooms to give out some information.

On October 21-22, during the third week of the Make Your Mark campaign, Pitmag will be putting up the Legacy Wall in the Library Lanai. The Legacy Wall is a place where people will be able to write and share their ideas on how to make the world a better place. Pitmag says, “the idea of the Legacy Wall is going along with the Make Your Mark campaign. What we thought is that people should literally make their mark. It is just there to get people excited about volunteering, and identify with their commitment.”
The fourth and final week leading up to the Volunteer Fair will be Volunteer week. From October 26-29, Pitmag and the Alex Office will be putting together activities for students around the school. These activities will include Volunteering Zones, where students can spend some time helping out around the school, such as, working on the school's gardens at around the library, and other activities. Pitmag says, “when we (Alex) talk to people about volunteering, the problem is not finding willing people, the problem is finding places where they can meaningfully volunteer, we are here to connect them. Hopefully we can make the community a better place”
Pitmag asks everybody to come to the fair on November 4 and make your mark during the Make Your Mark campaign. More information can be found at the school’s website for the Make Your Mark campaign.
